Since its foundation in 1961, HIMD's core mission has been to further the succession plan of Hitachi, Ltd. through training future management, Today, our training programs continue to form the core of the Management Development for line managers, at section-manager level and above, throughout the Hitachi Group. As we enter the 21st Century, the Hitachi Group needs managers who can act globally. In order to train these managers, we have developed a new Management Development Program ("MDP") in cooperation with the Human Resources Division of Hitachi, Ltd. to train young executives, with content rivaling what is taught in MBA courses at business schools around the world.
In order to facilitate long-term Succession Planning, fast-track managers must be given MBA-level training from an early stage. We have thus developed a Basic Management Series of individual training courses, which form the foundation of the MDP, and are currently broadening this series. Recently, young executives have been forming a growing proportion of the participants in this training.
The Hitachi Group has a wide range of diverse business domains, and each business field and company has different human resource development needs. We at HIMD have begun developing custom programs and offering consultations regarding overall human resource development policy, in order to support these diverse human resource development needs.

In addition to the Basic Management Series described above, management simulations and other content independently developed by HIMD are also highly regarded outside the Hitachi Group. In part due to the rising need to compare and evaluate different methodologies, the Hitachi Group has begun to actively offer various programs, which until now have only been available inside the Group, to managers outside the Group as well.
Throughout its history, HIMD has implemented a broad range of Shared Services related to human resource development for Hitachi, Ltd. and the Hitachi Group. Today, HIMD has a full array of programs, from training for specific job functions such as sales and accounting, to foreign-language learning. HIMD's tradition of human resource development and its familiarity with the latest trends enable us to offer a wide variety of human resource development services, both inside and outside the Hitachi Group.
