Hitachi Institute of Management Development

Hitachi

Basic Management Series

The Basic Management Series consists of about 40 courses in the four fields listed below. It covers basic subjects that participants can learn in about three years, while performing their ordinary duties. The series targets those aiming to become management specialists in the future, and also fast-track managers at the section-manager level or below, who have an ample time frame before becoming managers. The curriculum was decided after surveying major business schools in North America and Europe and selecting topics that are commonly taught in those schools. As students progress to higher levels, more advanced content is taught in more specialized areas. The development of this training series started with Hitachi's vision of transforming itself from a simple manufacturer into a company that offers the best solutions to meet diverse individual and enterprise needs.

Some courses in the Basic Management Series are also offered outside the Hitachi Group.

This is a two-week management development program designed for high-potential middle managers to be offered jointly with the Wharton School, the world's first business school, which has produced great business leaders worldwide as a leader in business education.

Although it takes place in Tokyo, this program aims to attract promising middle managers from a broad range of multinational companies around the Pacific Rim, taking full advantage of the participants' diverse cultural and business backgrounds.

In addition to the above-mentioned program in partnership with the Wharton School, Hitachi, Ltd. and the Hitachi Group regularly send high-potential executives to business schools outside Japan as part of the Succession Plan, in order for them to acquire the latest business knowledge and skills and network with other executives from around the world.

Every year, executive directors of specially selected business sector/group companies undergo one week of training at HIMD, after which they are sent to a custom course in partnership with the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland. Additionally, high-potential senior executives are sent to major business schools around the world.
